Toyota to introduce new hybrid cars

grill.jpgThe Prius was introduced in 1997 as the world’s first hybrid-only model by Toyota. Now Toyota Motor Corp., the Japanese automaker and the world leader in hybrid cars plans to introduce a hybrid-only model in 2009 that will join the previously released Prius. The model is expected to be a mid-size sedan with a 2.5- to 3-liter-engine, larger than that of the 1.5-liter Prius hatchback. This was reported by Japan’s Asahi newspaper.

The sedan will feature Toyota’s third-generation hybrid system, which promises to be both smaller and lower priced. Toyota will also be considering other hybrid-only models such as a minivan and a station wagon to boost the sales of hybrid vehicles. Also the Prius will be fully redesigned to incorporate the new hybrid system.

A hybrid system is the need of today to reduce the pollution and encourage more green cars into the market. Such a move from Toyota will certainly be welcomed.
