Toyota creating alcohol detection system

drink%20dont%20drive.gifPeople, more particular drivers are so utterly stupid and dumb at times that they need to be spoon-fed. If I had a quarter for every time the police or some welfare organization has advised drivers not to drink and drive I would have enough money to buy every car to be shown at the NAIAS in Detroit this January. “People just don’t listen” is what the many car companies have concluded and are starting to come up with new system for the driver’s safety. Toyota’s anti-drunk driver technology is one of those.

With Nissan and Saab developing similar system it looks like Toyota doesn’t want to be left behind. The system features sweat sensors embedded in the steering wheel that detect the amount of blood alcohol content you have. The system may also slow down the car if it detects abnormal steering or if an embedded camera detects that your pupils aren’t in focus at the same time confirming that the driver is either drunk, too tired to drive or both. With this the car then determines to come to a complete halt.

This is indeed a nifty little system and I hope they provide some sort of a recording that comes on which keep saying “I am stupid” and with hazard-lights so that passers by or the police realize that someone was dumb enough to actually drink and drive.
