Venturi’s solar-electro hybrid Astrolab

venturi%20astrolab.jpgAll car companies are slowly waking up to the fact that pollution from cars should be minimized. For this purpose there have been some radical designs like the Hummer O2 and some realistic ones like the Volt Concept. But this car had to be the best of them all, one which uses no fossil fuel at all. The Venturi Astrolab runs completely on the power of the sun.

It comes with 3.6 square meters worth of solar panels as seen in the photos, which enables the car to reach upto 68mph with a range of 100km. The car seating is in the fashion of a jet-fighter one behind the other and it was build using the state-of-the-art F1 technology such as wing tunnel testing and carbon monocoque ultra-light chassis.

Now you might wonder what you can do on rainy or cloudy days when the sun is not out…well even that is taken care of. The Astrolab’s liquid cooled NiMH batteries can be recharged by just plugging them into the mains socket.

The car design and innovation is truly amazing as it cuts down the emission to nothing at all. The Astrolab will be available for purchase in January 2008 for a estimated price of $117,000.
