- Trucker slapped with $17,000 ticket
-
Ouch! That’s got to hurt…and this truck driver will probably have to take a loan to pay off that kind of fine. Well just in case you are wondering, here is what happened. Truck driver William Carroll lost in the suburbs around Philadelphia and when he got pulled over and got a ticket for $17,751.50. This news was verified by NBC and found true.
A PennDOT spokesman, Charlie Metzger, explained that the fines are so high because heavy trucks can damage certain bridges and roadways. The Breakdown of the fine was: "its $150 for the fine, and then its $150 for every 500 pounds over the 3,000-pound weight limit," Metzger said. He further rationalized the fine saying the money often needs to go right back into the road repairs.I totally agree with the rules and regulations, and that they need to be maintained. But I am a bit confused because the sign in the photo says 5 tones. And a 3000 pounds weight limit? So what exactly do they drive on these roads? No trucks of course…along with no SUV’s? With that kind of weight limit they might have restricted a whole segments of cars, as most cars easily tend to cross the 3000 lbs mark. What do the police drive? Horse, cycles maybe…or have car chases on foot? As “accountable” to ones actions as it sounds – as some people have so thoughtfully pointed out it just sounds ridiculous if you build roads like these.
