The newest Altima, the 2008 Altima Coupe

Finally Nissan is taking its competitors seriously and the result is the 2008 Altima Coupe. The 2008 Altima Coupe is being brought in by Nissan to compete against the Toyota Camry Solara, Honda Accord Coupe and the Pontiac G6 Coupe. The 2008 Altima is Nissans first-ever two-door Altima. The aggressive offering boasts a shorter wheelbase, shorter overall length and lower height than its big brother, the Altima Sedan. The two cars share only a common hood when considering major body panels, with all other panels, grille, headlights and rear combination lights unique to the Altima Coupe.

Under the hood:

1. “Next generation” 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 with 270 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque or refined 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline 4-cylinder with 175 horsepower (170 hp CAL) and 180 lb-ft torque (175 lb-ft CAL)

2. Standard dual exhaust with both engines

3. Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) designed for fluid-feeling performance and efficient operation – V6 utilizes an all-new controller with adaptive logic and is performance-tuned

4. Xtronic CVTs available with both V6 and 4-cylinder engines
Refined 6-speed manual transmission with a short shift stroke and smooth shifting feel (available with both V6 and 4-cylinder engines)

5. Standard Traction Control System (V6 models)

6. Available Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) (V6 models)

7. Front engine/front-wheel drive.

8. Power-assisted front vented disc/solid rear disc with standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA)

Suspension includes Sub frame-mounted independent front strut suspension with coil springs, stabilizer bar Independent multi-link rear suspension with aluminum-alloy components, stabilizer bar. Also a Vehicle-speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering system.

The Altima Coupe boasts of a 105.3-inch wheelbase, a full 4.0 inches shorter than the Sedan. Overall length is 182.5 inches – 7.1 inches less than the Sedan. The Coupe also has a lower profile – at 55.3 inches it is 2.5 inches shorter than the Sedan. Altima Coupe models with the 4-cylinder engine are equipped with 16-inch wheels and tires, while V6-equipped Altima Coupes come with unique-design 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and 215/55R17 tires.

Exterior:

Select exterior features include sporty yet sophisticated and upscale design with all major exterior panels unique (from the Altima Sedan) except for the hood. The Coupe offers a shorter wheelbase and overall length (compared to Sedan), enhancing styling. That also gives it a compact yet well finished look for a car with smooth and elegant curves. The front and rear lights set also enhance its over feel for the better.

Interior:

Select interior features include high quality, sporty, driver-oriented interior with refined workmanship, soft materials and chrome accents. It features innovative passenger amenities, including Fine Vision instrument panel gauges, standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, so no more fumbling with the keys. Comfortable sports-style front seats and convenient storage compartments are included. Also available are a Bose -developed audio system with 9 speakers, Bluetooth Hands-Free Phone System and dual-zone automatic temperature control. They first go hands-free on the key and now the phone…why am I not surprised! And also the Bose audio system should make those long drives or even the heavy traffic sounds more enjoyable.

Safety Features:

Safety features include Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones, Advanced Air Bag System, front seat side-impact supplemental air bags for chest protection, roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags for front and rear outboard occupant head protection, standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), front seat Active Head Restraints. So basically it’s a car full of hidden pillows but doesn’t mean u should just go around crashing it in an attempt to test its reaction time!

So there u have it ladies and gentlemen. A compact car in its family of sedan full of power coupled with a extensive safety system and cool features like the hands-free keys, phone and the Bose audio system. What else could u ask for?....maybe a convertible of its kind, but perhaps thats for another day.
