$150K Mercedes fails to deliver decent GPS navigation system

roadster_int_5_main.jpgYou would have expected something better from a Mercedes, especially when it comes at a price tag of $150K. The 510-horsepower Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG Roadster is car which not all can afford, but even for such a hefty price tag it fails to deliver a decent navigation system to its owner.

In fact the navigation system of this car is one of the worst in the market. It is a DVD-based navigation system in which you need to keep your maps data on this DVD-ROM that is hidden in the trunk. You have to buy from Mercedes every year which would cost you an additional 250$. The navigation system is hooked up to a 7inch screen that also is the interface for many other electronics in the car.

The display of the COMAND navigational system is totally impractical with display of latitude and longitude that are completely useless to a driver. It completely lacks the more practical features such ETA to destination, satellite reception bar, the turn after the next, zoom etc. if you ask my opinion about the matter I would advice the folks over at Mercedes to go back to the drawing board on this one and redesign this pitiful navigational system completely.
