- Lincoln MKR Concept
-
It was expected of Ford motors to introduce a new rear-wheel-drive Lincoln concept car at the North American Intentional Auto Show starting January 2007 in Detroit. This was viewed as Ford’s attempt to save the future of it’s historic but troubled luxury brand, the Lincoln. We now see here the Lincoln MKR concept which is the rear-wheel-drive scheduled to be introduced at Detroit Auto Show this month, but will the MKR be able to show a bright future for the Lincoln line-up?With the new concept, Lincoln has introduced the company’s new “elegant simplicity” also showing the design strategy and the new engine to be used in the next generation of Lincoln cars. The concept is a 4-door coupe which features fuel-saving technology and sports a 3.5-liter gasoline twin-turbocharged direct-injection V-6 under the hood. This performs better when compared to a V-8 and gives an output of 415 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque on renewable E-85 ethanol.
“We’ve reinterpreted the best of Lincoln designs over time, preserving the restraint and elegance synonymous with the brand,” says Horbury, executive director, Design. “The Lincoln MKR concept is sophisticated and modern, resembling an athlete – extremely strong and fit but looks elegant in a tuxedo.
If Ford is really attempting to save the Lincoln’s future and has its hopes on this car they should consider some serious changes. It looks like a huge insect from the front and when considering the interior they seemed to have used some “plain plastic” materials for the décor. Even if the center console is not carried forward to the production line (which is a good thing) the car still lacks refinement. Let’s hope the production version of the MKR if it comes out will offer more excitement.
