- 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C Spider
-

Derived from the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the 8C Spider is purely and essentially a thoroughbred sports car in the traditional Alfa Romeo spirit; it offers sophisticated engineering, a sporty yet elegant shape, and strictly two-seat accommodation. This car is truly beautiful and a must have for any sports car enthusiast collection. The production version of the Alfa Romeo 8C was unveiled at a recent show in Paris. It goes on sale late next year for about $200,000 and as few as 500 units maybe built between the late 2007 and the early 2009. Approximately 100 of these cars will be exported to North America. It come equipped with a V8 4.7L version of the Maserati 4.2L unit and has been rated at 450hp. It has a maximum torque of 374lb-ft at 4750rpm. Basically the engine has outdone those used in the Quattroporte and the Gran-Sport Coupe and also the Ferrari F430. "This thing can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds," claims Egger, grinning from ear to ear, "Which underscores that the 8C is a serious driving machine, not a boulevard poseur. We expect a maximum speed of about 185 mph. theoretically, the car could go even faster, but the drag coefficient currently holds at 0.39, because we insist on zero lift at the front axle and down force at the rear. That's why the rear spoiler points skyward at a nineteen-degree angle. Since we fabricated the entire body and the interior of carbon fiber, this droptop tips the scales at about 3300 pounds. The weight distribution works out to a perfectly balanced 50/50."
Compared with the Maserati GranSport Spyder, the Alfa Romeo 8C is 176 pounds lighter, 2.4 inches wider, 1.2 inches lower, and 1.6 inches longer. The wheelbase grew by 4.3 inches, and it now exactly matches the footprint of the Maserati GranSport Coupe. It is also equipped with twenty-inch Pirelli PZero tires (245/40 in the front, 275/35 in the back).
The cockpit is made keeping in mind the soul purpose as driving

The interior of the car is comfortable with the dashboard sporting big hooded dials and a center console running through the center of the car finished by a stick shift. There is sufficient leg room for the driver between the seats and the paddle and also a comfortable looking 3 spoke steering wheel. Overall it’s typically that of a sports car.Front Corner

The profile to me somehow resembles that of the Porsche

wow...now u know the secret behind the smooth finish of the hood at the front

The exterior is simply a work of art. The car looks more of a supermodel than any other car out there and I would definitely list it in my exotic cars list. The shapely headlights have a smooth finish with the hood and the fact that the hood opens backwards makes it even smoother. However I feel that they might have done some more work in the rear as it looks too simple with the tail lights along with the twin exhausts.
This car is a pure blooded sport car with a very powerful engine, smooth curves to cut through the air and a cockpit made with the soul purpose of driving and nothing else. And we all know that we love it in the exotic red colour. Too bad that only 500 of these will be made, so if u want to sit in one of these I say u start praying…even if u have the $200k to dishout.
