Chrysler likely to discontinue Jeep Commander

Copy%20of%20JeepCommanderSUV3.jpgChrysler might stop building it Jeep Commander SUV after the 2009 model year, according to UAW and supplier sources cited by the Detroit News. The Jeep Commander SUV launched in 2006, was met with poor reviews and weak sales. Now after looking at the images of this vehicle all I can say is – Dumb move in the first place. Chrysler should be more proactive with such vehicles rather than introducing problems and then trying to solve them.

As for all the Jeep commanders sold this far, 88,000 Commanders to be precise, is all thanks to the heavy discounts, averaging between $6,000 and $8,000…ouch. Even for this, the analyst goes to say that Commander mostly dominated sales of the slightly smaller Grand Cherokee, rather than bringing in new customers, which adds more insult to injury. The company sold 139,000 Grand Cherokees last year, down 75,000 from the previous year.

Well…you know what they say – better late than never. At least they are getting rid of the trashcan.
