BMW pours cold water on Hydrogen cars

Copy%20of%20BMW_hydrogen.jpgCars which completely run on fossils fuels are a major threat to the environment with the kind of emission they cause. Due to this, hybrid cars which use a combination of both fuel and an electric motor and hydrogen powered cars which emit water vapor are the preferred choice. However, the future of hydrogen cars has been pushed even further.

According to the folks over at BMW who started production on the hydrogen-powered 7 Series sedan with an internal combustion engine now say that people will have to wait as much as 30 years till they see a pure hydrogen version of the car. "Hydrogen is considered to be one of the technologies that might be an answer in the long-term future, but it is a very long-term perspective," BMW's sales manager for Eastern Europe to the Asia-Pacific region, David Panton, said. "There are lots of challenges (with hydrogen-powered cars), just something as simple as distribution," Mr. Panton said in a visit to Sydney. "If we were able to solve all the (technical) issues, it would still take 20 to 30 years to get distribution channels in place across the world."

However, not all hope is lost…especially with the introduction of hybrids like the Volt introduced at the NAIAS by General Motors. In my opinion the use of such hybrids till they refine the hydrogen technology sounds like a good idea as it will cut down the emissions.
